About Qari Abdul Basit As Samad
Sheikh Abdul Basit As Samad was born in 1927 in a village near Armant city in southern Egypt. Abdul Basit As Samad learnt Holy Quran at early age. His teacher was Sheikh Muhammad El Amir and Mohammad Selim Hamada. He was the first reciter in his family, his grandfather was a religious scholar. He learnt he entire Quran by heart at the age of 10. He learned seven styles of Quran recitation by the age of 12 and 10 styles by 14. He started reciting the Quran in mosques and religious center.
Qari Abdul Basit As Samad has won three world Qirat competitions in the early 1970s. Many modern reciters try to imitate his style. He was the first reciter who make commercial recordings of his recitation.
Qari abdul Basit As Samad travelled to many countries for Quran Recitation. In 1952 he made the Hajj pilgrimage and recited the Quran in the Masjid Al Haram in Makkah and Madina.
Qari Abdul Basit As Samad died of diabetes and liver disease in November 30th, 1988. No doubt he has south full and heart touching voice. May Allah grant him highest rank in Jannah. Ameen.
